Akhwat Bilal Poultry Services (ABPS) Background History:
Akhwat Hatchery produced its first hatch on 28 December 2007 and this was the first such activity in almost 24 years. The hatching was considered of high quality with an 83% hatch rate. This was a private Poultry Hatchery that was built and started activities with the assistance of the USAID-funded Alternative Development Program – Eastern Region, Private Sector Development Team.
The team provided managerial and technical support as well as secured a loan for the hatchery through the ARFC another USAID-funded organization. The initial eggs for the hatchery were provided by the ADP/E Agri-business program in support of the Eastern Region’s Poultry Program. The newly hatched chicks will be distributed by the Spinghar Poultry Association to its members, half of whom were female farmers to be raised for commercial purposes.
